February 16, 2009 11:00 am General Sportwww.sportingbet.com.au – The Pittsburgh Steelers have made history in the NFL by winning their sixth Vince Lombardi Trophy and taking out Superbowl Forty Three in one of the greatest games and thrilling finishes of all time.
The game didn’t look like it was going to live up to the expectations of the hundreds of millions of people who watch but came to life in the dying seconds of the first half when a Pittsburgh intercept on what would have otherwise been a certain Arizona Cardinal touchdown pass saw James Harrison complete the longest touchdown run in Superbowl history to put the Steelers ahead 17 – 7.
A grinding third quarter saw both teams defence put to the test but it wasn’t until the fourth quarter – the championship quarter – that the game when into over drive.
The Steelers appeared to shut the gate on the Cardinals when they went ahead but the team from Arizona refused to lay down – wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald snatchin a one yard touch down pass from Kurt Warner to bring them within striking distance.
Another stroke of genius saw Fitzgerald catch a short pass from Warner and dash 50 yards for an easy touchdown that remarkable put the Cardinals in front for the first time in the match with less than three minute on the clock.
Then with just 45 seconds on the clock the unthinkable happened.
