Masters Golf Odds Update - Half Way to Glory
November 24, 2006 8:58 pm GolfIncredibly, 21 year old amateur Aaron Pike continues to lead the Australian Masters Golf field after day 2. He certainly didn’t let the excitement of yesterday get to him after he received “thousands of calls and text messages of support” from his family and friends. He currently leads by 2 shots at 11 under par.
There is still such a long way to go in this tournament, but I’m sure Pike has allowed himself a couple of “what if” thoughts. Who wouldn’t in his situation. But then again, it’s those thoughts that bring a golfer down as a tournment draws nearer to a close.
So what of the current betting race? Did you know that Pike was $1,001 to win the tournament two days ago and only one $5 bet was taken on him - believed to have been placed by his mother. So is he now favourite to win? Not likely. In fact, even if he was leading by two shots after round 3, he still wouldn’t be favourite to win. The truth is, it’s tough to win a golf tournament such as this one and to lead from start to finish is even tougher. Let’s not forget that Pike is only 21 and an amateur who had to pre-qualify to get a start in the tournment.
Currently, the second position on the leaderboard is taken by Justin Rose, who is the favourite at 4.50, followed by John Senden (4 shots behind Pike) at 8.00. Pike is on the third line of betting with Peter Lonard at around 11.00.
