The WACA is well know for being a bouncer friendly wicket and Steyn has vowed to ‘bring Heyden down’ in what should be an incredibly fiery opening spell for the Proteas strike bowler.
Heyden need only to look back two years to his long time opening partner Justin Langer’s 100 test in which he received a viscous bouncer from Mkaya Ntini that struck him on the helmet and resulted in him spending the night in hospital.
Then there was the now legendary David Hookes incident that left him with a shattered jaw and compelled Cricket Australia to implement a rule making the wearing of helmets against fast bowlers compulsory.
The Heyden v Steyn match up is just one of many key match ups to watch.
Smith will no doubt cop his fair share of treatment from Brett Lee as will Jacques Kallis who generally takes an eternity to get going – a tactic that often frustrates bowlers.
There is nothing more entertaining to watch than bowlers making their way to the crease to face their fellow quicks.
There will no doubt be plenty of sting in both attacks and expect plenty of ducking and weaving from the tail enders as their counterparts pepper the upper body.
