March 2, 2009 11:00 am Cricketwww.iasbet.com.au – The Australian cricket team has landed in South Africa ahead of their three match test against the Proteas and Ricky Ponting has been quick to signal his intent and the intent of his Australian bowling attack.
Coming off the back of a loss to the South Africans in both forms of the games and a drawn series against New Zealand, Ponting was quick to praise his young and relatively inexperienced bowling attack.
Despite the fact that fast bowlers Mitchell Johnson, Peter Siddle, Doug Bollinger and Ben Hilfenhaus have played just 23 tests between them, Ponting is confident his charges can take the twenty wickets required to dismiss the Proteas in any conditions anywhere in the world.
The inability for the Australian bowling attack to dismiss the South Africans in the recent series has very much been a talking point in the Australian and in fact international media.
It is no secret that the South African wickets have a tendency to favour swing and seam bowlers which are ideal conditions for the Australian attack.
Mitchell Johnson was a shining light for the Australian over the test series but seemed to struggle in the one day form of the game. Leaving selectors and the press adamant that the more he bowls, the better he gets.
Siddle had mixed fortunes in the test series and was left out of the one day squad in favour of Hilfenhaus who had a reasonable outing with the ball.
Bollinger domestic test has been exceptional but it is yet to be seen if his form will translate onto the international scene.Iasbet.com.au
