Centrebet.com.au – Australian Cricket
December 24, 2008 11:00 am Cricketwww.centrebet.com.au - Australian Cricket Coach Tin Nielsen has waded into the war of words ahead of the three match test series to commence on December seventeenth.
Nielsen practically scoffed at the South Africans attempts to fire up the Australian side, highlighting South Africa’s complete absence of victory (or form for that matter) on Australia soil since the side post apartheid inception back into world cricket in 1991.
Nielsen labeled any attempt by the Proteas to enter into pre-match sledging ahead of the first test in Perth as ‘cheap talk’, insisting that the South Africans need to let their cricket do the talking for once instead of their mouths.
Since 1991, the South Africans have lost four series on Australian soil and have tried every trick in the book to gain ascendancy over the unflappable home side.
Despite a recent lack of form in India, the Australian maintain their world number one rank while the South Africans have been elevated to number two, fanning the flames of competitiveness between the two teams.
But as every team knows, Australia is a completely different team on home soil, a fact the Black Caps found the hard way, losing both tests within four days and offering very little resistance.
Instead of returning fire, Nielsen offered some hasty advice to the South African team.
He noted the good average (in particular batting averages) of the Proteas this year and urged them to focus playing the cricket that has seen them reach world number two, instead of relying on cheap tactics and quick fixes.
Australia play as an exciting, honest brand of cricket that could do without the controversy of last year’s series in which India attempted to drag their series through the mud duringB and after a five-nil whitewash.
