Super 14 Rugby Starts

Rugby Union No Comments

Well it’s only early days in the Super14.com season and already we look to be in for a thrilling season of great rugby. After week two games the Sharks are sitting on top of the table along with the Auckland Blues with both teams having posted two wins. Check out this weeks updated odds here.

The real surprise is Canterbury the winners of the 2006 Super 14 who lost their first game and managed a narrow victory over a rejuvenated Queensland Reds outfit. Of course there are many All Blacks out of the current Canterbury who are being positioned as ‘Left right out’ before the RugbyWorldCup.com in France later this year. This may or may not pay off for the mighty All Blacks but from past experience in all codes of football it would appear to mean that there is no substitute for match hardiness than actually playing real games… meaning the teams that train as they play take the trophies away. The www.Super14.com competition is no different to a tough training session.

Australian teams got off to a good start with the Western Force having an impressive win over the Stormers. As is the case in New Zealand many of the Australian Rugby World Cup squad is also being sidelined. Based on last years international performances Australian Rugby need to be pushing forward not sitting back from the games.

This weeks Super14 matches see the Stormers take on the Chiefs on Friday in Cape Town. The Bulls match up with the Western Force also on Friday and played in Pretoria and closer to home the Reds will clash with Brumbies in Brisbane in great www.Super14.com.au action! Bet Now!

Expect the Reds to stop at nothing for Eddie Jones to show his old club and the Australian ARU that they made a mistake in letting his services out of their hands.

Our best bet of the week is Queensland to beat the Brumbies with the handicap.

Rugby Union Odds – Some Value This Week?

Rugby Union No Comments

I really hate it when I’m looking at a bunch of rugby union international games and the odds just stink – I mean, there are some of these times when the Aussies are playing Italy or New Zealand playing Tonga. Well the games on this weekend look slightly better.

The first match up is an intriguing one between Italy and Argentina in Rome. Both teams have had some very good outings recently, including Italy’s brave performance against the Wallabies last week. Argentina will want to put in a good performance to make the world sit up and take notice of their recent improvement. Italy is currently sitting at $2.50 with Argentina at $1.53 – surely there is a little bit of value in Italy after last week? The line in this match is Italy +5.

A predictable battle between France and New Zealand sees the kiwis giving up 16.5 points start in what should be an easy win. You can back them at 1.12 or France at 6.25.

In what is another interesting match, England take on South Africa at Twickenham. Can South Africa break a 6 game – 6 year losing streak to the Poms? There is no reason why they couldn’t. The Springboks haven’t met England for 2 years now and a lot has changed since 2004. Unlike the Italy/Argentina match, these two teams are coming off ordinary form, with England losing to Argentina last week while South Africa lost to Ireland.

Each team will be looking to turn things around, and the bookies have used the English home ground advantage to install them as $1.64 favourites with the Springboks at $2.27. Keep an eye out for a form change in one of these teams.

Watch out for a potential upset in the next match, where Scotland is taking on the Pacific Islanders at Murrayfield. The Scots are worried about the potential high tempo and flair of their opponents after an easy win over Romania last week – where they are hardly tested at all. One just has to look back to last year when Scotland only just outlasted Tonga 18-11 at the same ground… This South Pacific side has the best of Tonga, Fiji and Samoa in it and they’ve had time to gel together.

The South Pacific team are the outsiders at $3.15 with Scotland sitting at $1.36. The line is Scotland -8.5, and giving the Islanders that much start could be a problem.

Finally, it’s the downhill sliding Aussies taking on the surging Irish team in Dublin. Ireland convincingly beat South Africa last week and have been installed as favourites against the Wallabies who had trouble beating Italy.

You can back Australia at $2.35 if you think they can bounce back in Dublin, or Ireland are $1.60. The line in this match is Australia +4.5. Do you think they’ll need that start?
