Rugby Union as we know it will drastically change in 2011! In recent news, the SANZAR (The South African Rugby Union, the New Zealand Rugby Union and the Australian Rugby Union) have unveiled plans to establish a 15th team into the competition in 2011. So basically, the Super 14’s will become known as Super 15’s!

To have a sports bet at sportingbet.com.au click here!

So how will the new Super 15 work? Well nothing has been finalised yet, but under the proposed new rules, the season will run for 24 weeks, which is two months longer than the current season structure. Also, for the first time, the competition will be split up into three national conferences of five teams each! Sounds confusing I know. Naturally, there will be kinks that need to be ironed out, but the plan is that each team in the three divisions will play their four competitors twice, once at home and once away. The teams will also play four out of the five teams in both other divisions, four of those at home and four are to be played away.

So when looking at how the new Super 15 work, the new structure will guarantee that each team will play at least eight home games! That might draw more supporters to become members of their club! That can only be a good thing!

How will the new Super 15 finals work? There will be a final series with six teams. The three divisional winners and three other teams – possibly the team that finishes second in each division!

So who will be the 15th team? Only time will tell.

Rugby Union’s new Super 15 competition, due to start in 2011, will replace the current Super 14 format, with one extra Australian team to be included.

The name and details of the new team is yet to be confirmed, but the competition, with 15 teams, with operate under an NBA-style conference system, with three pools of five teams, based on location.

Currently, in Super 14, five teams from South Africa and New Zealand compete, while Australia has four. But the new system will ensure a perfect balance will exist in an expanded 24-week competition.

The decision to move to a Super 15 competition was made by SANZAR (South Africa, New Zealand and Australian Rugby). It is also hoped the competition will provide better quality rugby for fans of the sport, due to healthier competition in an expanded league.

Teams will play those from their own conference (and country), home-and-away, twice, while also competing against eight teams from the remaining two conferences of 10 teams. This results in each team not playing against two sides representing opposing nations during the regular season. Each team will play 16 matches.

The finals will then take place in a six-team system before the semi-finals. One team from each of the three countries must be included in the finals series under the rules of the new league.

It is hoped that this competition, with the addition of one extra Australian team, will help increase the power of our national Rugby Union team, because more players will, inevitably, get exposed to national-quality rugby.

One of the closest Super 14s seasons in history is reaching fever pitch on SportingBet.com.au, with just three rounds to go while as many as nine teams battle it out for a coveted place in the top four.

To bet on sports online at SportingBet.com.au click here!

At the top of the table the Hurricanes and the Bulls tussle for top spot and the tag of outright favourite heading into the playoffs.

You could throw a blanket over the remainder of the field with just five points separating the third placed chiefs and the ninth placed Brumbies.

Surprisingly, Australia is in danger of not having a SportingBet representative come play off time after recent poor performances from the Waratahs and the Brumbies have seen them slide down the ladder.

The bolter of the pack would appear to be the Western Force who, after notching up a club record win over the Lions last week have snuck into sixth place on the ladder and sit only three points adrift of the top four.

However they face the unenviable task of playing the Bulls at home this week and will do extremely well to get a bonus point let alone a win.

The Brumbies square up against the Reds in a local derby that is a must win game for the ACT side if they are any hope of making the play offs, so keep an eye on the odds and bet on NRL when you have made a decision.

The Waratahs face a much easier assignment in taking on the last placed Cheetahs while the Hurricanes and Blues will battle it out in Wellington.

The Crusaders travel to Johannesburg to face the Lions who will no doubt be smarting from last weeks thrashing and keen to make amends.

If the Stormers can overcome the Chiefs at home it will throw the top end of the table wide open for the lower placed teams in the top eight on Sporting Bet.

The Wellington Hurricanes are looking like the team to beat in the Super 14s Rugby Union competition following a 56 – 7 hiding of the ACT Brumbies – the worst defeat in the clubs history.

To bet on Rugby Union online at SportingBet.com.au click here!

Aside from an early try to prop Ben Alexander, the Brumbies were never in the contest as the Hurricanes ran in eight unanswered tries for a massive bonus point victory.

The win saw them move to the top of a jam packed Super 14s table over the Bulls who look like the real deal and will challenge the Hurricanes for favouritism come play offs time so get your bets in at SportingBet.com.au!

Just seven points separate first and ninth place with three games left to play.

The loss saw the Brumbies slip out of the top eight into ninth position behind the eighth placed Crusaders.

The biggest surprise from the round was a club record win by the Western Force over the lions – a 41 point thrashing that saw them take seventh spot on the ladder and the honour of the highest ranked Australian team just ahead of the Waratahs.

The big move could see the Force make the play off finals for the first time in the clubs brief history – a massive shot in the arm for Rugby Union in Western Australia. For further information on these finals just visit the SportingBet website.

It really is one of the most hotly contested Super 14s series in years and it is anybody’s guess who will take out the major prize in just over a months time.

The red hot Hurricanes will be hard to beat but the Bulls (who have held top spot nearly all year) will have something to say about that.

Any of three Australian teams can make the play offs from here but the Brumbies have made it very difficult for themselves while the Force may just surprise everyone.

Bet on NRL and Rugby Union today to ensure you’re chance at winning is secured!

Fixtures for the 2009 Tri Nations Rugby tour have finally been released and rugby fans right throughout Australia, New Zealand and South Africa can look forward to a veritable feast of rugby action come mid July as the competition gets under way.

To bet on Rugby online at IASbet click here!

The opening clash will be between New Zealand and Australia ion the 18th of July in Auckland which should prove to be an extremely tough assignment for the Wallabies having lost there last year in failing to claim the Tri Nations trophy. This has, however, not affected the options to bet on NRL online.

Australia don’t play again til the 8th of August when the meet South Africa in Cape Town meaning although they will have a difficult start to the Tri Nations series they will have a solid run to the finish with plenty of home crowd support.

They then play three consecutive home games with matches in Sydney (vs New Zealand), Perth (vs South Africa) and Brisbane (vs South Africa) which should please Australian spectators no end.

They will face they unenviable task of fronting up against the Kiwis in Wellington on September 19th in the final game of the series and the decider for not only the Tri Nations, but the Bledisloe Cup.

New Zealand took out both the Tri Nations and the Bledisloe last year while South Africa turned in a sub par performance to finish last in the Tri Nations.

A new look Australian side has experienced a fair bit of success on the International front since then and no doubt provide tough opposition for both the All Blacks an reigning World Champions. This will certainly change the possibilities available at IASbet.

In other news, Argentina’s bid to be included in the Tri Nations (making it the quad nations) could become a reality as soon as 2012 despite some opposition from the current teams.

Following a loss to the Sharks, it is alleged that a number of Brumbies players went out on the town to take in the Durban nightlife.

On the way home and just metres from the hotel, Mackay stepped out onto the road into the path of an oncoming car and is lucky to be alive.

Doctors in Durban placed the young superstar in a drug induced coma in which he is expected to remain for a minimum of forty eight hours and until he is brought out of the coma the extent of his injuries cannot fully be assessed.

At 4.15 am on Sunday morning, players were about to board a security van to take them back to the hotel when Mackay was struck by an armed response vehicle, the driver of which sped off from the scene only to return minutes later, an allegation that Durban police will neither deny or confirm.

Mackay sustained a cervical spine fracture and dislocation, a fractured skull, a compound fracture of the left leg as well as multiple fractures and lacerations to the face.

Doctors at St Augustine’s Hospital in Durban fear that the likely outcome will be permanent paralysis.

According to sources within the team who remained at the Hotel for a good nights rest, the remainder of the squad returned to the hotel in tears and ‘complete shock’ believing that Mackay had in fact been killed. Check here for our review of sportingbet.com.au

www.iasbet.com.au – Origin, test and premiership superstar Karmichael Hunt is well on his way to switching codes in order to pursue a lucrative Rugby Union contract in Japan.
Once touted as one of the most prodigious young talents in Rugby League, the Brisbane Broncos fullback who has played at the most elite level since he was just seventeen years old has reportedly had talks with former Wallabies Coach Eddie Jones in recent weeks.

The news comes just days after contract negotiations between Hunt and the Brisbane Broncos broke down after he failed to accept a three year contract rumoured to be in the vicinity of one million dollars.
Having played Rugby Union in high school only to be poached by Brisbane talent scouts before his final year, Hunt has made no secret that he would relish the challenge of switching back to Rugby Union and would play either in Australia or over seas depending on which was in his best interest.
If negotiations with Japanese clubs break down, Hunt could attempt to juggle a career in both codes and join Union convert Sonny Bill Williams in France at the end of the current NRL season which will see him out of contract.
If all goes according to plan, Hunt could play out a season with a French side after his stint at the Broncos comes to an end, then potentially play for Suntory in Japan.
The two deals combined would mean a pay cheque of around $800, 000 on top of his final payment for the Broncos for just over a year of laying football. IASbet.com.au

Last week, the Brumbies beat the Highlanders with a a drop goal in the final minutes.

Brumbies coach Andy Friend said it was again encouraging to see his side play out a full match.

Friend will be well pleased with his sides excellent start to the season after a below average season last year saw the Brumbies miss out on the finals.

A handful of Brumbie players have cut their teeth on the international scene and have been providing extra firepower in a new look Brumbies outfit.

Despite missing All Blacks trio Richie McCaw, Brad Thorn and Leon MacDonald, the Crusaders showed the depth they are renowned for, holding in their own at the breakdown.

The sides traded blows throughout a scrappy first half, scoring a try a piece with Crusaders star centre Casey Lualala and Brumbies No.10 Christian Lealiifano both crossing the line, but it was the visitors that went to the break in front 11-8.

The Brumbies played their best rugby late in the second half, with Gerrard a standout.

But it was Mortlock who stepped up to clinch victory with a conversion from wide out in windy conditions before a crowd of 17,500. lasseters.com

www.centrebet.com.au – The faceoff between Ospreys and Connacht ended with a final score of 22 – 10.

All in all, the players of Ospreys have certainly displayed great team spirit, as well as aggressive playing skills. Initially, the thought of a really young team up against Connacht may have left viewers not even bothering much of the existence of Ospreys. They did well for themselves for this match and throughout this entire season and earn themselves a great win. However, the win isn’t enough to secure themselves the 2nd place in this league.

BET NOW

It had been a rather challenging season for the Ospreys for many of their players sustained injuries, thus were unable to turn up on pitch.

The match started out well for the Ospreys as displayed by Vaughton who sneaked in, snatch the ball back and passed it on to Spratt. It was aggressively done, fast and there was no way Connacht players could prevent it.

Having said so, Connacht had their chances to turn the tables around but lost them out during the two penalties. The pressure was surely on Keatley for he missed two important opportunities then.

Jonathan Thomas, having sustained injuries, was released on the pitch and may not have been in tip-top condition. However, his appearance seems to have pressure its opponents and overall, boast the team’s spirit.

With many of the injured Osprey’s players raring to go, I think it would be a good watch down through the season. centrebet.com.au

The All Blacks have won the last three tournaments and got off to a great start.. New Zealand opened with a 19-eight victory in Wellington over World Champions South Africa. Fly half Dan Carter making all the difference kicking four penalties and a conversion.

South Africa had the chance of revenge just a week later in Dunedin and took full advantage of some sloppy All Blacks defence to win a thrilling encounter 30-28. The defeat ended a five year unbeaten run on home soil for New Zealand with the game won in the final five minutes when Ricky Januarie chipped over the defence and gather himself to race clear a touch down.

So far that has been the Springbok’s only victory in the 2008 event as they failed to capitalise on that losing to Australia seven days later. The Aussies enter the fray with a 16-9 victory in Perth thanks to tries from Lote Tuqiri and Stirling Mortlock.

In Round four the Wallabies took on New Zealand and blew them away with astounding display that saw them run out 34-19 winners again in Perth. Four tries from the side was too much for their opponents with kicker Matt Giteau adding four conversations, a drop goal and a penalty.

However New Zealand put themselves back on top of the table, albeit having played a game more, with a 39-10 revenge score over Australia proving they are probably the team to beat again.
