Sportingbet.com.au – Australian Geoff Ogilvy has moved to the top of the FedEx Cup rankings ahead of a busy month on the USPGA professional golf tour.

Ogilvey will no doubt face stiff competition from Sean O’Hair who, following his recent victory at the Quail Hollow Championship in Charlotte, currently sits in second place just sixteen points behind the Australian.

The Players Championship at Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida kicks off with a purse of nearly ten million dollars in prize money on offer where Spaniard Sergio Garcia will defend his title. The Players Championship essentially gives players bragging rights as although it’s not the richest event on the tour it is one of the most highly regarded.

Next week sees the Valero Texas Open from San Antonio Texas and Zach Johnson will qualify automatically while he attempts to defend his title in the six and a half million dollar event. Young Australian Adam Scott has had mixed fortunes since turning pro but will look to make it two in a row having won last year’s HP Byron Nelson Golf Championship in Irving Texas in late May.

Australians are experiencing unprecedented success as with each new tournament they feature higher and higher in the rankings and Ogilvies success comes of the back of a bumper tour of Australia in which he won the Australian Masters and featured in two other tournaments. Tiger Woods continues to impress despite falling short at the Quail Hollow Championship and is expected to be more than competitive in the coming months.

Tiger Wood’s to play in Australian Masters

Golf No Comments

NRL Update – It’s no secret that most sport players are never quite the same after surgery, this pretty much applies to everyone. There was much doubt surrounding Tiger Woods’s magic after his much publicized knee surgery earlier, but any doubts was squashed when he won with a final hole birdie putt to win at Bay Hill.

To bet on NRL click here!

Tiger Woods is the man who makes a sport that other 900 million players can’t figure out like child’s play. Before this win, he had won the Bay Hill game in Orlando five times before, of which, he won by rolling in a birdie putt on the last hole winning the likes of Phil Mickelson.

The drama certainly provide entertainment, and always led me to think can Tiger Woods do it again, and he did, time and time over. He even managed to win (remarkably) last June’s US open while limping around the jungles of Torrey Pines on one leg. Coming back from an eight month layoff, it was certainly amazing that he managed to get back on form in such a short time.

The good news is Tiger is going to come to Australia, his first appearance Down Under since 1998. He will play at the Australian Masters this November. It is predicted that his one visit will at least earn the Victoria state $12.54 million in terms of economic fees, which will far outweigh his appearance fee of $3million.

This marks only the fourth appearance for Tiger Woods in Australia, and although some might scoff at the 3 million fee he charges just to show up, many others will think otherwise. Andrew Langford-Jones for one said it is a good investment and will give the sport a boost.

Centrebet.com.au – Young Star in world of Golf

Golf No Comments

Centrebet.com.au – Once in a while, in every sport, you get a young star that just takes the world by storm, and in the world of golf, Danny Lee seems to be the brightest star shining and he is only 18 this year.

To place nyour bet on centrebet.com click here!

He has met the world number 1 golfer, Tiger Woods in the Masters, and commented that he is not quit the big and ripped person as seen on TV. On the contrary, he appeared tall and skinny.

While the young star doesn’t look a day older than 18, and appears to hardly be a threat to Woods, his results suggests otherwise. To begin with, Lee has already replaced Tiger Woods in the record books as the youngest U.S. Amateur champion, and to add onto that, he made his way into the history books when he won the Johnnie Walker Classic as the youngest winner in European History.

However, that said Lee is not the youngest player at Augusta National. The youngest player is 17 year old Ryo Ishikawa from Japan. This Japanese boy first won his Japan Golf Tour when he was only 15, won as a pro when he’s 16 is still a high school student. Right at the heels of these two Asians is Rory Mcllroy, who at 19 years old is already ranked No. 17 in the world.

Another one of these could be the next Tiger Woods, but surely one can tell the quality of golf is getting much better with athletes entering the game early, and maturing fast. The golf scene is indeed heating up, and for sure, future games will get more and more interesting.  Now is the time to Bet on NRL.

Centrebet.com.au – Golf world cup

Golf No Comments

www.centrebet.com.au – The golf world cup was taken by the Swedish, Robert Karlsson and Henrik Stenson in a dramatic win at Mission Hills in China. The score for the Swedish was a nine under 63 that beat next in line, Spain’s duo, Miguel Angel Jimenez and Pablo Larrazabal. With Spain second, Japan and Australia tied for the third place. The defending champions Scotland was 20 points back from the Swedish.

BET NOW

Even before the start of the much anticipated game, the Swedish was already a hot favourite to win, and despite starting on the final day four behind the runner up, five birdies moved them up to the winner’s spot.

The Australian team was quite a disappointment, with a score of 73. That’s eight shots behind the Swedish, but on par with the Japanese who put up a superb game.

This is the second win for the Swedish, after a long drought of winners since 1991 in Rome, which was won by Johansson and Anders Forsbrand.

Nevertheless, the Swedish has put up a fine performance, especially Henrik Stenson, who has enjoyed a very good season and played very well albeit not winning any tournaments until the World Cup. There are two more to go in South Africa which he will continue to play, and I will certainly be putting my money on him, seeing how consistent he is, plus given his win at this recent world cup.

As for Ireland, who has traditionally done reasonably, Paul McGinley and Graeme McDowell had their worst game ever with a five over 77 to finish at 16th position.

Sportingbet.com.au – Golf

Golf No Comments

sportingbet – All eyes at Huntingdale will be on one man this week as troubled golf star ‘Long” John Daly takes to the course as a surprise wild card for this years Masters.

BET NOW

This may prove to be a huge gamble by tournament organizers as Daly, who stepped out of the Airport only to light up a cigarette less than ten paces from the door, is also battling a drinking and weight problem.

Regardless of his physical appearance and fitness, Daly fired and eight under final round last week in Hong Kong to show critics that although he’s not your ideal athlete, he can still swing a mean club when he puts his mind to it.

The self confessed McDonalds junkie who smokes a pack a day and enjoys more than just the odd drink is optimistic about his chances here in Melbourne.

Despite looking a little dazed and confused, Daly claims he is on the road to recovery and his golf game is the best it’s been in years – vowing to get back to the days of monster drives and impossible irons that earned him the nickname ‘Long John’.

One thing is for certain, event organizers can expect a bumper crowd, eager to get a glimpse of this sporting anomaly.

What he lacks in finesse he will more than account for with the easy going nature, party-boy attitude and un-orthodox approach that has seen him ride the proverbial roller coaster of his twenty year career in professional golf.

At the end of the day he is still the 692nd best golfer in the world – no mean feat in anyone’s book.

Masters Golf Odds Update – Half Way to Glory

Golf No Comments

Incredibly, 21 year old amateur Aaron Pike continues to lead the Australian Masters Golf field after day 2. He certainly didn’t let the excitement of yesterday get to him after he received “thousands of calls and text messages of support” from his family and friends. He currently leads by 2 shots at 11 under par.

There is still such a long way to go in this tournament, but I’m sure Pike has allowed himself a couple of “what if” thoughts. Who wouldn’t in his situation. But then again, it’s those thoughts that bring a golfer down as a tournment draws nearer to a close.

So what of the current betting race? Did you know that Pike was $1,001 to win the tournament two days ago and only one $5 bet was taken on him – believed to have been placed by his mother. So is he now favourite to win? Not likely. In fact, even if he was leading by two shots after round 3, he still wouldn’t be favourite to win. The truth is, it’s tough to win a golf tournament such as this one and to lead from start to finish is even tougher. Let’s not forget that Pike is only 21 and an amateur who had to pre-qualify to get a start in the tournment.

Currently, the second position on the leaderboard is taken by Justin Rose, who is the favourite at 4.50, followed by John Senden (4 shots behind Pike) at 8.00. Pike is on the third line of betting with Peter Lonard at around 11.00.

Masters Golf Odds – Amateur Leads the Way

Golf No Comments

Queensland Amateur golfer Aaron Pike fired on day 1 of the Australian Masters at Huntingdale today, as he shot a course equalling record 8-under par 64 to take the clubhouse lead.

It is obvious that nothing can really be taken from the leaderboard after day 1 of a major golf tournament such as this, but Pike certainly made a few people sit up and take notice today – he is just 21.

Looking at the odds, it is interesting that he still sits a long way from that favourites, even though he’s generally 4 shots ahead of the best of them. You can back Pike at 26.00 at www.iasbet.com.au, if you think he can sustain his momentum. Of course, history says he can’t.

Other notable golfers in the market are (holding joint favouritism at 9.00) Peter Lonard, Justin Rose, Robert Allenby and Aaron Baddeley.

Australian Masters Golf Odds – Head to Head Betting?

Golf No Comments

The Australian Masters Golf starts tomorrow at Huntingdale. Golf is always so tough to bet on because there are so many players in a tournament and so many things can happen throughout the four days.

The Masters is pretty much a carbon copy of the Australian Open that was contested last week, in terms of competing players. There are a few exceptions, including the addition of a couple of top ranking European players (including Paul Casey, currently at 11.00 to win).

The favourite is currently Stuart Appleby (10.00) followed by Casey, Robert Allenby (12.00), Peter Lonard (17.00), Nick O’Hern (19.00), last weeks winner John Senden (19.00) and Michael Campbell (21.00).

Our sneaky pick from last week, Nathan Green, is at 26.00 to win the Masters. Green led for over 3 full days of the Open last week, but inevidably came back to the field and fell away on the last day. Four days of tough golf took its toll, but watch out for Green in the future.

If you’re sick of waiting so long for your outright golf bet to come to fruition, you should take a look at Tournament Head to Head and Round betting.

In the tournament betting, normally there are 2 players of close to equal skill levels matched together by a bookmaker and you’ll need to pick which one will win the match up. Currently at www.iasbet.com.au, you’ll find match bets such as Baddeley v Lonard, Lyle v Rumford, Green v Rose and Allenby v Appleby. While you’re not getting the same good outright odds, the player you pick only has to beat the other player in the match up and you’ve won your bet.

Round by round betting works the same way, but the player you bet on has to beat his opponent for that round. Normally, these players are matched based on their playing partners for that round. In rounds 1 and 2, there are normally 3 players in each group, and you’ll need to pick the winner of that group for that round. When there are 3 players in a group for betting purposes, it’s called 3 ball betting. The player with the lowest round wins. For rounds 3 and 4 when there are only 2 players in each group, then it’s between those two players.

Head to head betting is a fun way to bet golf, especially the round by round options where you can watch a group of 3 or pair on the course and follow the action. Head to head bets in golf are certainly the best way to bet golf.

Australian Open Golf Odds – Update After Day 3

Golf No Comments

Nathan Green walked into the clubhouse today with just a single shot lead over the field, with just one day left to play in Sydney at the Australian Golf Open.

After dominating days 1 and 2, today he shot a +1 round of 73 to drop back to the field. The big movers today were Brett Rumford, Gavin Coles and the ever-present Adam Scott.

In fact, Scott now holds favouritism at around $3.50, followed by Green on $4.50. Others in the market are Rumford at 7.50, Appleby at 9.00, Ogilvy at 11.00 and Coles at 11.00.

Can Nathan Green hang on to make it an all the way win? It will be a very interesting day of golf tomorrow and we would recommend you tune in to make the most of it – all day on channel 7.

Australian Open Golf Odds Update – Day 2

Golf No Comments

After a might brighter day in Sydney today, Nathan Green continues to hold a 2 shot lead at the Australian Open Golf Championships. His odds to win have now plummeted into $2.50, with followers including Richard Green 2 shots back ($4.50), Stuart Appleby (7.00) and Gavin Coles (26.00) 5 shots behind and Adam Scott (6.00), Nick O’Hern (12.00) and Geoff Ogilvy (8.50) a whopping 6 shots off Green.

So is Nathan Green really this good and can he finish this tournament off? For sure and certain – he matched it all year as an amateur in the USPGA which has put him in good stead this week. However, another Green is snapping at his heels – Richard Green. Surely these two will fight it out for the crown? Only time will tell.

Australian Open Golf Odds Update – Day 1

Golf No Comments

In what is unseasonably dark and dire weather in Sydney today, the golfers teed off for the 1st round of the Australian Open Golf championship. We brought you news of everyones odds and who you should watch out for in yesterday’s column.

After round one, our big tip for the championship, Nathan Green, is already 2 shots clear at the top of the leaderboard. His outstanding 67 today was enough to show that he can mix it with the big boys of world golf. The question now is if he can hang on for another 3 days.

History in these tournaments show that the first round leader normally drops back to the field by day 4, so it will be interesting to watch.

It’s expected that Nathan Green’s odds have tumbled from his opening quote of $29 into around $6. Good luck to everyone that climbed aboard at $29s!

Australian Golf Open Odds – Action starts tomorrow

Golf No Comments

Didn’t the Australian golf season creep up on us all this year? Starting at Royal Sydney on Thursday November 16, the Australian Golf Open has brought some big names back to Australia this year.

Winner of 3 major Australian tournaments, the very consistent Robert Allenby ($10), will be giving it his all to continue his good form of the last couple of summers.

The unlikely 2006 US Open Champion, Geoff Ogilvy ($12), will also be looking to have some success on home soil. We all know he deserves it, so could it be his year at the Open?

World number 4 Adam Scott ($6.50), is always present here in Oz to fly the flag – what can he bring down under this year that will push him to the top of the leaderboard?

Other world class players will also be showing off their talents this week – Stuart Appleby ($10), Nick O’Hern ($13), Peter Lonard ($29) and Aaron Baddeley ($23) just to name a few.

But, could we be forgetting someone in all of this? Oh yeah, the player who is always present at Australian tournaments even when he doesn’t attend – Greg Norman (odds at a massive $126). Well this year, golf fans DO get to see him play – could it be for the last time?

No doubt the Australian public loves Greg Norman, but what does the very talented world junior amateur champion, Nathan Green ($29), think of Greg Norman’s attendance this year? He didn’t really seem to mind until he was partnered with him on the first couple of days. “You’re kidding,” he said when he was told!

Whatever happens that the Australian Open this week, it will surely generate some much needed positive press for the sport – with Norman being in town, and our predicted good showing by Green. In fact, if you want a sneaky bet on the tournament, Nathan Green is your man – at $29 to win, it’s great value considering he was beaten in a play-off with Tiger Woods in this years Buick Invitational.
