Australian Open Odds - Tennis Coming Up
December 11, 2006 5:34 pm TennisWell, it really isn’t too far away until the 2007 tennis year begins with the www.AustralianOpen.com.au Tennis Championships. Every year we seem to hear about the chances in the mens tournament but it eventually fades out and Federer ends up the victor.
Again, Federer is starting the AustralianOpen as favourite, at 1.40 to win the tournament. Of course this seems very short odds for someone who has to win seven best of 5 set tennis matches in a row, but realistically Federer is going to be at between 1.01 and 1.05 odds to win most of these matches.
So who can challenge Roger Federer in the 2007 www.Australian Open.com.au? Perhaps a better question to ask is: Did you know the surface has been replaced over the past 12 months? There are reports that it is now a faster surface, which is what many players have been asking for. The most vocal in this regard is Australia’s Lleyton Hewitt. Will this help him? Will his mind still be on tennis after a packed couple of years (getting married and having his first child)? Hewitt is 29.00 to win the 2007 Australian Open tennis.
Don’t forget about world #2, Rafael Nadal who you can back at 6.50, or Andy Roddick at 13.00. Interestingly, Roddick gave Federer a shock at the 2006 season ending Masters tournament when he was only a couple of points from winning the match. Federer escaped that time, but who will put in the hard work in the off season?
The next line of betting sees the 2005 Federer destroyer Marat Safin at 26.00. One must note that the epic 5 set encounter between Federer and Safin at the 2005 Australian Open was voted the best match of that year - and Safin won it.
Federer looked very shaky in the 2006 Open against Davydenko, who is next at 26.00. Last years surprise finalist Marcos Baghdatis is at 34.00 along with the other surprise performer in Ivan Ljubicic (34.00 also).
Whatever way you look at it, the Australian Open is the toughest tennis event on the calendar for a number of reasons including the fact that it’s pretty much the first tournament of the 2007 year - anyone that has been partying too much over the break will be sorely tested in Melbourne. The other reason is the extreme heat and only a certain number of players can handle it.
