Australian Golf Open Odds - Action starts tomorrow
November 15, 2006 7:12 pm GolfDidn’t the Australian golf season creep up on us all this year? Starting at Royal Sydney on Thursday November 16, the Australian Golf Open has brought some big names back to Australia this year.
Winner of 3 major Australian tournaments, the very consistent Robert Allenby ($10), will be giving it his all to continue his good form of the last couple of summers.
The unlikely 2006 US Open Champion, Geoff Ogilvy ($12), will also be looking to have some success on home soil. We all know he deserves it, so could it be his year at the Open?
World number 4 Adam Scott ($6.50), is always present here in Oz to fly the flag - what can he bring down under this year that will push him to the top of the leaderboard?
Other world class players will also be showing off their talents this week - Stuart Appleby ($10), Nick O’Hern ($13), Peter Lonard ($29) and Aaron Baddeley ($23) just to name a few.
But, could we be forgetting someone in all of this? Oh yeah, the player who is always present at Australian tournaments even when he doesn’t attend - Greg Norman (odds at a massive $126). Well this year, golf fans DO get to see him play - could it be for the last time?
No doubt the Australian public loves Greg Norman, but what does the very talented world junior amateur champion, Nathan Green ($29), think of Greg Norman’s attendance this year? He didn’t really seem to mind until he was partnered with him on the first couple of days. “You’re kidding,” he said when he was told!
Whatever happens that the Australian Open this week, it will surely generate some much needed positive press for the sport - with Norman being in town, and our predicted good showing by Green. In fact, if you want a sneaky bet on the tournament, Nathan Green is your man - at $29 to win, it’s great value considering he was beaten in a play-off with Tiger Woods in this years Buick Invitational.
