AFL – Collingwood’s Update
June 15, 2009 11:00 am General SportAFL Update: Collingwood’s woes continue as a team that was highly fancied to make the top four along side the likes of the Geelong Cats and the St Kilda Saints is seemingly falling apart before it’s loyal fans very eyes.

Just two weeks ago they looked to have their season well and truly back on track after a thumping of North Melbourne only to turn in one of their worst performances in recent memory to be trounced by the red hot Saints to the tune of over eighty points – the highest winning margin of the saints over the pies.
With major targets Travis Cloak and Anthony Rocca up front failing to fire and relative new comer John Anthony out suspended, Collingwood simply had no tall forwards up front.
To compound this, their two small forwards Paul Medhurst and Leon Davis were both late withdrawals from the squad meaning they literally had no targets up front.
To add more misery to an already dour looking season, both Rocca and Cloak missed the game against old foes Carlton while Medhurst was again a late withdrawal after failing a last minute fitness test.
Midfielders Dale Thomas and Alan Didak were both out of a squad that is now so depleted and lacking in form that many believe they will struggle to make the eight.
A fifty point thumping at the hands of Carlton (despite they kept blues spear head Brendon Fevola goalless) has put pressure on Collingwood Coach Mick Malthouse to stand down at the end of the season after coaching over two hundred games with the black and whites.
